What do bed bugs look like?

Bed Bugs
Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are very tiny, flat creatures with oval bodies. They are brown... until they consume blood, then turn to a reddish brown.

Grown adults are about 3/16 inch long...about the size of an apple seed, so they are actually visible. However, the younger bugs, or “nymphs”, are truly evasive. They are only about the size of a pinhead, and are a whitish-gold color until they feed. (Ironically, about the same color as most mattresses.)

Unfortunately, nymphs can survive months without feeding...which means they can live practically invisible for this long as well. Adult bed bugs can go more than a year without food.
