FORT MYERS, FL – May 28, 2015 - Our Mother’s Home of Southwest Florida, Inc. has announced the addition of Marin Asher, Director of Marketing and Business Relations for Larue Pest Management, Inc., to its Board of Directors. The organization’s vision is to end the repetitive cycle of foster care and generational poverty that afflicts teen mothers and their children.

“Our Mother’s Home gives teen mothers in the foster care system and victims of human trafficking an opportunity to break the cycle of abuse, neglect and abandonment, so their children can have a better chance in life.” Board of Directors President, Debra Newell explains. “Our Board of Directors have been working aggressively toward making some very positive changes and outcomes in the lives of our young mothers and their babies. We are so excited to be bringing on our newest members, Marin Asher and Larry Aguilar. They will be able to provide additional benefit in the area of marketing, media, fundraising and mentoring.”

Asher is the Director of Marketing and Business Relations for Larue Pest Management, Inc. and has extensive background in web development, online marketing, public relations, and building client and business relations throughout Lee and Collier Counties. In 2004, she purchased the home of the late Helen Coppage, founder Our Mother’s Home. Coppage and her husband had fostered nearly 60 children through the home, which left a lasting impression on Asher. This personal connection to the organization, combined with her professional experience, makes her an ideal asset to Our Mother’s Home’s and the Board of Directors.

“It’s so fulfilling to see things come full circle and finally be giving back to an organization that I believe in with all my heart. I’m extremely excited about helping the board increase awareness and support for Our Mother’s Home.” Asher said.

Our Mother’s Home provides facilities for ten teen mothers and their babies and offers them a safe and nurturing environment where they can transition to a stable and productive life. Education, parenting support, plus mental, physical, and spiritual care are provided. The organization’s Mentored Living Program offers food and clothing, “Life Skills” training, independent living services, job preparation, medical care, activities, and more. Various curriculum-based parenting classes are provided and exceed state-mandated minimums.

In addition, teen mothers attend a school, vocation, or college. The education they receive is individualized in their service plan.

About Our Mother's Home of Southwest Florida, Inc.

At the age of 74, foster parent Helen Coppage saw the need for a dedicated residential program that would allow teenage foster mothers and their babies to remain together as mother and child; one that would teach them the additional skills they would need to be independent and self-sufficient parenting adults. With seven years of profound determination, Our Mother’s Home of Southwest Florida, Inc. (OMH) became a reality; after being dedicated on Mother’s Day of 2000. Helen passed away later in the same year at 81. Since then over 200+ mothers and children have benefited from Our Mother’s Home Mentored Living Program at an 90% success rate of preserving families, transitioning foster mothers to self-sufficiency and saving the lives of children by avoiding their re-entry into foster care.
