2017 Year in Review at Larue

“Change brings opportunity.”

– Nido Qubein

For Larue, that quote couldn’t be more true.

In 2017, Larue Pest Management experienced some of the biggest changes in our 40 year history, but before I get to that, I first want to share some highlights from last year outside of September’s great weather event.

In January, Larue Pest Management and Pool Pros Inc. were co-title sponsors of the Kiwanis Club Ft Myers Metro-McGregor’s BUG Chase. This 5k race takes place at the Calusa Nature Center and supports the “Bring Up Grades” programs in local Lee County elementary schools and other community service children’s projects.

In April, we sponsored “Chefs Cooking for Kids”, an annual fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast. All donations made at this event go towards helping kids right here in Lee County do better in school and gain more confidence. The Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

In 2017, we also became Golden Heart Sponsors of Our Mother’s Home of Southwest Florida, an organization that transitions teen mothers and their children from foster care and human trafficking to stable, happy, and productive lives by providing them with a safe and nurturing home, education and parenting support.

In October, we once again teamed up with Pool Pros to co-title sponsor the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic. This Annual event is the primary fundraiser for the chamber, which helps it maintain its status as “The Education Chamber”, providing over $600,000 in grants to local students and teachers.

As you can tell, we believe that children hold the future in their hands and work hard to support local programs that will help them be successful in life.

Last year we also experienced steady growth and career opportunities for our team, adding three new routes to our line-up.

Then along came Irma…

We never could have imagined it it, but with the heavy winds came a ton of rain. In 31 years of owning our building in Lehigh, we’ve never flooded. That is, until Hurricane Irma blew through Southwest Florida.

When the storm passed, it left more than a foot of water throughout our main headquarters. We were forced to move our entire operation to our small satellite branch. Our team was amazing throughout the entire process and handled the changes extremely well.

The Lehigh office had to be gutted and sanitized, but now shines with new drywall and paint. And in the process an opportunity was born. It was a time to reimagine our surroundings since Larue’s team had already started outgrowing our Lehigh office.

The outcome is that starting this January our corporate offices will be located off Plantation Road in Fort Myers and our Lehigh location will become a service and training center for our pest control, lawn care and irrigation technicians.

As another great saying goes,

“Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and beautiful at the end.”

We look forward to what new and exciting changes 2018 will bring. We’re looking forward to helping many more residents better enjoy their homes and lawns, by not worrying about pests and yard work. We’re also proud to continue showing our support for many worthy organizations that are helping make our community and the world a better place!
